Say Goodbye to Excess Body Hair with Laser Hair Removal

Unwanted hair growth can have a decidedly negative effect on our appearance. This is true regardless of whether the hair is growing on the face, belly or legs. As we age, our skin becomes less elastic, meaning that shaving can be hazardous because of the appearance of wrinkles and skin folds. However, even younger adults seek an alternative to shaving, waxing and plucking.

Laser hair removal is a safe procedure that eliminates those unwanted hairs for good. Unlike simple shaving, a laser heat treatment actually affects the hair follicle, meaning that no hair will ever grow in that location again. We encourage those who wish to get rid of unwanted body hair to learn more about laser hair removal.

How It Works

When the laser beam penetrates through the skin and the energy is absorbed by the hair follicle, the area is cauterized, but the adjacent tissues are not affected. The follicle will no longer produce hair cells. Remember, hair is actually made of dead cells that are pressed together to form a strand. When the follicle is targeted, the cells are no longer produced. The pore tends to close up a bit as well.

Preparing for Laser Hair Removal

A consultation is scheduled, during which the client will be given all the facts about how the laser instrument works and how effective this type of treatment will be. In the days leading up to the treatment, we advise our clients to refrain from direct sun exposure. We may also recommend that the client shave the area just before treatment.

Plucking and electrolysis should be avoided because these treatments affect the follicle and can make it more difficult for the laser beam to be absorbed properly. Certain medications may have to be avoided for several days prior to treatment.

What Clients Can Expect

The laser is a handheld instrument that delivers a precisely calibrated frequency of light, one that will be absorbed by the follicle. Goggles are usually worn to prevent reflected light from striking the retinas of the eyes. After multiple treatments, the end result is a permanent reduction of hair in the desired area.
