In-Office Surgery Q & A

What In-House Surgeries Does AIWH Perform?

For women who experience heavy menstrual bleeding, who are interested in permanent birth control, who require an examination of their uterus or have cervical abnormalities, we have procedures at AIWH for these conditions and more.

NovaSure®

It is estimated that about 10 million women suffer from heavy and/or irregular menstrual bleeding, which can in turn cause fatigue, headaches and intense cramping. NovaSure® Endometrial Ablation is a simple, quick procedure that gently removes the lining of the uterus, reducing or stopping menstrual bleeding altogether.

NovaSure® provides a safer alternative to the side effects of pills or the extensive healing of a hysterectomy. Our medical team will help you determine if NovaSure® is right for you during your consultation.

Hysteroscopy

What is a hysteroscopy?

A hysteroscopy is a simple procedure performed to examine the lining of the uterus. During a hysteroscopy, a viewing tool called a hysteroscope is inserted into the vagina and carefully moved through the cervix and into the uterus. A hysteroscope has a light and camera hooked onto it so that our medical team can get a clear picture of your uterus on a video screen.

When is a hysteroscopy performed?

A hysteroscopy may be performed for several reasons such as checking for cancer, removing growths or polyps, examining the cause of certain symptoms or looking at the openings of the fallopian tubes.

LEEP

What is a loop electrosurgical excision procedure, or a LEEP?

A loop electrosurgical excision procedure (LEEP) is a standard procedure that prevents cervical cancer by removing abnormal cells from your cervix.

Your doctor uses a small electrical wire loop to remove the abnormal cells. Typically, they perform it when a Pap smear, a biopsy, or a colposcopy yields abnormal results.

During your consultation with our medical team, several factors will be evaluated such as your health, medical history, and individual condition to determine whether these procedures are right for you.

As all surgical procedures have some risk, our medical team will advise you on the potential side effects prior to treatment.

Contact Associates in Women’s Health today to schedule a consultation and find out if you are a candidate for NovaSure® or a hysteroscopy.
